CDH Energy Corp was recently awarded research project 1449-TRP by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The project will use building simulation to complete an energy efficiency and cost assessment of humidity control options for residential buildings. CDH teamed up with Building Science Corporation on a project to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of various technology options and HVAC design approaches that may be extensively applied in humid climates and other circumstances where latent loads comprise a larger-than-typical portion of the total cooling requirement.

"HomePIC" Project Begins. A team lead by CDH Energy has been awarded a project that seeks to demonstrate that highly energy efficient design practices can be applied in moderately-priced homes. The Home Performance Improvement Challenge (HomePIC) team, which also includes the Syracuse Center for Excellence (COE) in Environmental and Energy Systems, Northeast Green Building Consulting, Camroden Associates, and Syracuse University BEESL, has been awarded a contract from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to work with builders to incorporate energy efficient design and construction practices into their homes. The goal is to achieve Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Scores of 93. The project was described in a February 21 newspaper article as well as a press release from the Syracuse COE.

CDH Energy and the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) recently completed a report for the US Department of Energy (DOE) that summarizes a multi-year research project to understand the dehumidification performance of air conditioners at part load. The report documents lab and field test results as well as new engineering models that were developed to predict part load latent degradation. To view/download the PDF file, click here.
