FlexTech

New York State Facility Owners:
CDH Energy is now a NYSERDA FlexTech contractor!

CDH Energy’s team of energy engineers can now analyze the energy needs of your New York State facility through NYSERDA’s FlexTech Program saving you 50% of the study costs.  As an approved FlexTech contractor, CDH can provide a range of energy–related evaluation services including feasibility studies, commissioning, rate analysis, and new construction design assistance to New York companies and facilities.  Because NYSERDA pays 50% of the cost for approved projects, you receive these services at a 50% discount.  Some of these details are described below.

How does the FlexTech program work?

Initiating a project under the FlexTech Program is simple.   Usually the process starts with an initial meeting with a CDH engineer and a NYSERDA project manager at your facility.  In this initial meeting, we jointly determine your needs and define a scope of work for a potential project.  As part of this process, we usually "walk though" your facility to determine where the opportunities for energy savings are and to understand what energy issues you feel are most important.

Based on the initial meeting, CDH prepares a formal proposal including a statement of work to be completed at a not–to–exceed cost.   CDH then sends this proposal to NYSERDA for their review.   Once the NYSERDA staff approves the proposal, it is sent on to you with a one–page "contract" that outlines your share of the project costs and other terms.  Typically, customers receive a formal proposal from NYSERDA within 2 weeks of the initial visit.

Of course, if you are not satisfied with the proposal, you are under no obligation to proceed.  It is also possible to modify the statement of work and resubmit it through NYSERDA based on your feedback.

How do I know if my facility is eligible for FlexTech Assistance?

In most cases, if your electric bill shows that you pay the System Benefits Charge (SBC), you will be eligible to receive assistance under the FlexTech Program.

What types of projects are eligible for Assistance?

FlexTech stands for "Flexible Technical Assistance", so almost any energy–related project can fit into the program.  Potential projects can include:

  • Energy audits or studies to determine what changes and improvements can be made in your facility to cost–effectively save energy and reduce operating costs;

  • Feasibility studies to take an in–depth look at the technical and economic potential of capital–intensive improvements such as on–site power generation, chiller replacement, or other large–scale projects;

  • New construction design assistance to evaluate the energy impact of facility design decisions in the conceptual or schematic design phase;

  • Commissioning to ensure your current systems operate as originally intended, and to improve operation and reduce utility costs by optimizing equipment control;

  • Process analysis to minimize industrial utility costs while ensuring reliable operation of process loads such as refrigeration, process cooling, and compressed air systems; and

  • Utility rate analysis to assess the impact of complex utility rate options such as real– time pricing on your energy costs given your usage patterns.
What is not eligible for FlexTech Assistance?

FlexTech projects cannot include system design or the preparation of construction drawings.  However, we do, as part of our evaluation, provide a "schematic" or conceptual description of the proposed systems that you can supply to contractors to finalize design details and complete the installation.
