Professional Experience:
- Partner CDH Energy Corp.
- Certified as a LEED Accredited Professional by the USGBC. Experienced with the operation, benefits and issues with many green building systems such as photovoltaic and wind turbine generation system. Knowledgeable in the LEED Green Building Rating System.
- NYS Engineer in Training
Building Combined Heat and Power (BCHP)
- Performed several campus wide BCHP feasibility studies. One campus wide study resulted in the installation of a 5.5 MW natural gas turbine system.
- Performed several small scale BCHP demonstrations including application of a microturbine/desiccant combination, and a microturbine/absorption chiller combination for refrigeration sub-cooling. Both demonstration sites were performed on supermarkets.
Wastewater Treatment Plants
- Manage, implement, and report on plant wide and end-use metering studies for eleven wastewater treatment plants across New York State.
- Performed thermal analysis for wastewater treatment plants in New York and Wisconsin, to optimize the use of onsite biogas production. Optimizations included use of biogas for building combined heat and power application, optimizing storage and boiler controls to maximize biogas utilization.
- Contribute to development of and analysis for a nation-wide survey of wastewater plants to characterize and provide a ranking system for plant energy consumption.
Building Simulation
- Provided whole building energy simulations using DOE2/eQuest/Energy 10 building simulation software for use in evaluating building component upgrade
- Evaluated building interior lighting designs using Lumen Micro lighting evaluation tool
Instrumentation, Systems Integration and Monitoring and Verification
- Experienced with all aspects of field monitoring and data collection from constructing and installing custom data acquisition systems; data collection through building DDC control systems; application of low cost packaged data loggers for simplified monitoring.
- Performed numerous field monitoring and performance studies on commercial refrigeration systems and HVAC equipment, including natural gas driven compressors, secondary refrigeration systems, ammonia absorption chillers, geothermal heat pumps, and desiccant units.
- Designed and installed energy and performance monitoring systems and equipment on various building systems, including HVAC, main electrical service, and boiler plants.
- Utilized existing building DDC control systems to perform energy monitoring on a building-wide basis.
- Specified, installed and integrated programmable logic controllers (PLCs) as a supervisory controller to manage a microturbine/absorption chiller based BCHP skid to maximize annual efficiency.
- Performed field monitoring per IPMVP standards to determine energy savings from new controls and/or equipment upgrades
- Developed a custom MODBUS (RTU & ASCII) driver for the Campbell CR10 series datalogger to allow communication with other MODBUS based devices and SCADA systems.
Energy Audits
- Conducted extensive building energy audits resulting in the application of various energy conservation measures (ECMs) including lighting and HVAC equipment upgrades, and energy saving HVAC control modifications. Energy audits typically include a combination of utility bill analysis, building models, and short-term field monitoring to maximize the accuracy of the ECM savings predictions.
Software Development
- Developed custom software solutions to extract meaningful results from large data sets.
- Developed web-based static presentations and interactive applications of monitored data using PV-Wave data visualization software and Python programming language
